The goal of this project was to create a promotional poster for a small theatre group in Montreal who were putting on a comedy titled "Le Béret de la Tortue." The poster was intended for use in promotional materials such as pamphlets and on the theatre group's website. The play itself was a lighthearted comedy, and my objective was to ensure that this comedic element was conveyed clearly in the poster's visual design.

GOALS & CHALLENGES

The director had a specific vision for the poster—he wanted a turtle wearing a beret, wrapped in a polo, posed in a comical way to reflect the humour of the play. Additionally, he requested that the poster feature rocks and a jellyfish since they were important elements to the story of the play. Although these key elements were given, I had creative freedom over how to present them in a way that captured the comedic essence of the play.

PROCESS

I started this project by exploring two possible directions for the poster.

First direction of poster

Direction 1This concept followed the director's suggestions closely, including the elements the director requested. The colors were bright, and the text were both altered in a way to convey the tone of the play.

Direction 2This concept took a more experimental approach. It incorporated certain elements mentioned by the director, but relied more on the turtle's expression to convey the comedic tone rather than the other elements on the poster.
